The Company
Our client is a wholly owned subsidiary of a globally-renowned European research-based pharmaceutical company, represented in more than 90 countries with 3,000 employees.
The Canadian operation covers R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Sales/Marketing and Finance/Administration functions. The R&D and the Sales teams are the largest within the Canadian organization, and are to be expanded from 4 regions to 6, based on recent growth.
The company is part way through a 3 year mandate to double sales. In 2009, the client organization bought back the distribution rights to its products in the U.S. In addition, they also bought a California based biotech firm with one promising product in Phase III trials.
The Position
The Director of Marketing will be the link between Sales and Marketing leadership, the sales force and a growing team in product marketing. Developing marketing programs that resonate with the sales force is crucial to the client's growth strategy.
Key Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the development, management and execution of strategic sales and marketing plans.
- Work closely with all functions within the company to coordinate all elements related to product success (product claim profile, supporting study design, Health Canada submission strategy, commercial/sample packaging, launch plans, sales force sizing/execution, promotional messaging/planning, etc.).
- Define market opportunities and recommend strategies to differentiate their products.
- Oversee relationships with public relations and advertising firms used to promote their products.
- Identify and act on future market trends.
- Conduct external market and competitor analysis.
- Lead the measurement, analysis, and reporting of marketing campaigns.
- Maintain alignment between product marketing and corporate strategy.
- Provide effective leadership and instruction for the Marketing group.
- Develop and manage budget for the Marketing group.
- All other duties as assigned from time to time.
The Candidate
- University and/or business degree;
- 10 years pharmaceutical marketing;
- 5 years of management experience;
- Strong leadership, organizational, communications, interpersonal, presentation and coaching skills;
- Good working knowledge of key therapeutic areas;
- Willing and able to travel for business in Canada, the U.S. and Europe;
- Experience recruiting, developing and retaining talented team members.
- Solid MS Office skills and Internet proficiency.
